The straight razor shave is the highlight of men's cosmetics. No razor is as versatile as the straight razor. A straight razor will master nearly everything, whether the regular wet shaving, the fine shaving of contours, the styling of your beard or the occasional shaving of three-day to five-day beards.

Round Point, Spanish point, full hollow ground, half hollow ground, 5/8 or 6/8 inch... The choice is endless, and differences are not always easy to understand for beginners. To get started, we recommend a full hollow 5/8 inch razor with a round point.

The city of Solingen is known for its cutlery worldwide. At DOVO, we are proud to produce and develop in Solingen. Here we carry the tradition and quality into the future. All razors are manufactured with a share of at least 50% by hand. Every straight razor is made with outstanding craftsmanship and passion.

Should you go for a carbon steel or stainless steel straight razor? Both blade materials are perfect for wet shaving. Both materials are modern steel alloys with a wide range of applications. The advantage of the stainless steel blade is the low maintenance, while the carbon steel blade is a touch harder.

The wet shaving with the straight razor is easier than you think. Essential is the preparation because a dry beard hair has about the same strength as copper wire. First, apply creamy lather to your face, then set the stropped razor blade with an angle of 30 to your skin. Now you begin with short and slow strokes along with the grain. If necessary, you can do a second pass against the grain.

To ensure a long service life, your straight razor needs little care. In principle, the care of the razor is simple. Use a soft cloth to dab off the water and let the razor dry for a few hours in the air to get completely rid of any moisture. When stored for extended periods, razors made of carbon steel should be treated lightly with oil.

To use your straight razor properly, you need a leather strop. When stropping, you re-align the cutting edge and keep your razor sharp for a long time. Furthermore, you should go for a shaving brush. Only with a proper brush, you achieve an extra creamy lather, that will make your shave a relaxing experience.

We recommend that you store the straight razor in a well-ventilated place, as this is the best way to protect the metal from tarnishing or oxidation. Since the burr of the straight razor bends slightly during shaving, leave the straight razor to rest for 48 hours. During this time, the burr can realign itself.

The 5/8 inch DOVO 3 straight razor is nicknamed "Bergischer Löwe" and belongs to the best of the best. With its Spanish point, the finely worked blade is elegantly gold-plated and paired with a handsomely crafted handle. As a tribute to our home region and its history, the lion adorns each of the hand-made straight razors as a heraldic animal. For maximum grip, the underside of the tang is ribbed.

This straight razor is made of carbon steel with the material number 1.2210, better known as silver steel. In order to achieve a hardness of approximately 61 HRC, the material is heated to over 1000 degrees celsius and then immediately quenched with a special oil. The subsequent tempering at about 200 degrees celsius gives the blade elasticity and toughness. The ornaments are beautifully gold-plated with 24 karat gold.

During hollow grinding, the straight razor is ground concavely from the back to the cutting edge. This design combines great flexibility with high torsional rigidity in longitudinal form. Enjoy the satisfying sound and feel of a gentle shave from the vibration of the razor blade trimming your facial hair.

The Spanish point is an elaborately designed shape for razor points. Its unique shape comes from its concave form with a slightly rounded tip. This rounding also facilitates the shaving of complicated areas around the ears, nose, and dimples. Such a design offers you high precision without having to sacrifice security and control.

5/8 inch razors are truel all-rounders and can do any wet shaving task with flying colours. The blade is relatively heavy and can therefore glide gently over your skin without great pressure. At the same time, it is still nimble enough to manage even more technically demanding passages around the nose, ears, and chin.

Most straight razors are made of carbon steel. To avoid stains, rinse your blade with warm water after shaving. Next, dab it dry with a cloth without touching the cutting edge and stow it open to dry completely. Between two applications there should be at least 48 hours so that the burr can realign itself. If you are not going to use your razor for a longer period of time, apply a bit of acid-free oil to it. You can find more information here.

The 5/8 inch DOVO Apex straight razor is the only square point razor in our product line. The straight razor stands out with its elegantly 24-carat gold-plated tang and ebony handle shells. In addition to its beauty, the straight razor offers you a fully hollow polished carbon steel blade that impresses with its sharpness and strength.

A straight razor with a traditional square point, the cutting edge ends directly at the tip of the blade at a 90 angle. With a little practice, you can achieve formidable results both when precisely shaping contours and when shaving dimples. Such types of blades allow you to shave comfortably with absolute precision, but should only be handled by experienced users.

Dovo-Stahlwaren has been German's largest producer of straight razors since many decades, and produced many revered historical trademarks that did not specifically say "Dovo" on their steel. The original Dovo factory was established c.1906, and continuially operated from the same locale for 115 years making Dovo straight razors and razors for select other marques and specialty stores (Dovo hasrelocated within Solingen in 2021).

Production of a Dovo straight razor begins with a raw steel cylinder of approximate 10mm diameter, heated and drop hammer forged to several progressively-shaped dies at aSolingen forge. Several dozen steps are executed to begin the forming of the Dovo straight razor until such time as it is ready for the crucial hardeningand tempering processes, which requires great expertise and results in a steel both sharp and flexible alike. 041b061a72
